Port Stephens is a classic and much loved Sydney getaway and is situated about 150km north of Sydney.  It is home to some of the most beautiful inland waterways in Australia and is the perfect place for whale and dolphin watching.  Just south of Port Stephens and stretching all the way down towards Newcastle is Stockton Beach.  A vast 30 km long beach with its distinctive feature being the layers and layers of sand dunes, up to 1 km wide in places.  The scenery here is quite unique and can be best described as like something from the Sahara Desert!

The whale watching season is generally between May and November.  During this period, Humpback whales are extremely common along the New South Wales coastline, particularly along a narrow corridor close to Port Stephens, known as the "whale highway"!  The 3 hour whale watching cruise at Port Stephens is on board the MV SPIRIT & MV SPIRIT OF PORT STEPHENS.  These are fast, stable, 18 meter power-Cats with a 9 meter beam ensures a fast and fun cruise. They also feature a spacious 360 degree split-level under cover viewing deck.  The experienced skippers have a 98% success rate of spotting many of the 10,000 whales that migrate each year.  Camel riding at Stockton Beach is also available on this trip, but at own expense ($25).

The bay of Port Stephens is a pristine natural environment and attracts frequent pods of dolphins which can be viewed and enjoyed from a 1.5hr dolphin watching boats that leaves Nelson Bay all year round.  Dolphin watching is done on board the MV Surprise and MV Tamboi Queen.  Experienced skippers will tell you all about the dolphins and the Port in an informative and fun way and free information sheets on the dolphins are available.  All vessels are fully licensed, plus there's bottomless tea and coffee available through the cruise!  Finally, if you chose to visit Port Stephens for the dolphin watching we will also add in a memorable "Sahara Desert-like camel ride experience".  This makes for an awesome day out and is a much loved day trip out of Sydney.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Arrangements 

The whale watching trip pick-up time is at 9am and drop-off is at 8pm due to the whale watching cruise not finishing until 5pm.  The dolphin watching tour pick-up time is at 8am and the drop-off is at 7pm.  For both tours, we provide a complimentary hotel pick-up and drop-off service for customers staying within Sydney CBD or if you require a Manly pick-up, please request one.

Lunch 

Lunch is not included on this tour.  Feel free to bring your lunch with you to eat on the go or there will be brief a chance to buy food.
