Flamin' Galah competed in the Sydney Running Festival

The Sydney Running Festival returned to the streets of Sydney with more than 32,000 participants set to traverse some of Sydney’s most iconic and spectacular locations.

Al Wilson from Flamin' Galah Sydney Tours and Airport Transfers is a keen health and fitness fanatic and proudly ran the half marathon, an event which he tries to do twice per year.  This year saw his third best time at 1 hour 23 minutes and 31 seconds.  He's proud to say that at that pace he ran each of the 21.1km in an average of 3 mins and 57 secs.

At the launch this week, Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Major Events Andrew Stoner and Blackmores Head Coach Michelle Bridges presented race day bibs to elite athletes including Paralympian Kurt Fearnley.

This year’s race, which was compared to the New York Marathon is a must do and will be seen in Japan as part of an international broadcast deal.

“I’m pleased to announce that for the first time, the 2014 Sydney Marathon was broadcasted live-to-air in Japan on Fuji TV, to further support and attract participants from this important visitor market,” Mr Stoner said.

“Participants from Japan account for the largest international contingent, with more than 600 travelling to Sydney for the festival in 2013, an increase of 67 per cent from the year before,” he said.

Blackmores Head Coach Michelle Bridges, said she loves to see so many people being active at the Sydney Running Festival with thousands of people running and walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

“It is such a fantastic event and Sydney always turns it up in Spring, the views were incredible!” Ms Bridges said.

“People all around the world can be active and I encourage everyone, no matter how young or old, to get outside and get moving! Grab your friends and family join in the fun at this iconic event,” she said.
