Its getting closer...One of the world’s biggest sporting events hits Sydney - the ICC Cricket World Cup.

Not long ago, we saw the coundown begin as it was 100 days to the World Cup in Sydney and the event was commemorated with a photo shoot on the edge of Sydney Harbour featuring cricket legends Steve Waugh, Allan Border, Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke, as well as NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, Stuart Ayres.

The NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, and the Local Organising Committee are ready to welcome Cricket’s most prestigious global tournament in its return to Australia after 23 years.

Fourteen teams will compete in the tournament: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, West Indies and Zimbabwe.

Sydney will play a major part in the staging of the event by hosting three pool matches (one game including Australia), a quarter final and a semi-final, which promises to attract thousands of visitors from interstate and overseas.

Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres, said that as Australia’s only global city, Sydney is an ideal location for the World Cup.

Its hard to believe that with Sydney already bulging at the seams with tourists and with record numbers of cruise ships entering Sydney Harbour this season, that the cricket will bring even more tourists to Sydney and further boost the economy.  This is great news for tour operators and all the other suppliers of Sydney.  Flamin' Galah Sydney Tours can't wait!!
