Boost in visitation from China

Australia’s tourism industry can expect a boost in visitation from China, following the signing of a landmark new air services agreement between the two nations.

Australia’s tourism industry can expect a boost in visitation from China, following the signing of a landmark new air services agreement between the two nations.

Under the deal, Australian and Chinese airlines will immediately be able to operate up to 26,500 seats per week between major gateway cities in Australia and Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The number represents an increase of 18% on the routes, or 4000 weekly seats.

A further 7000 weekly seats to and from Australia and China will be phased in over the next two years, ramping up the number to 33,500 weekly seats by 2016.

„Making it possible for Asian markets to grow has been a key priority for the Abbott Government, and this new deal with China will allow Chinese airlines to almost triple their services to Australia over the next two years,” Deputy prime minister and minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss said.
