All time record financial year tourist arrivals growth

The number of tourists coming to Australia grew by almost half a million for the 2013-14 financial year – and for those that don’t keep track of the numbers, that’s the highest on record.

The number of tourists coming to Australia grew by almost half a million for the 2013-14 financial year – and for those that don’t keep track of the numbers, that’s the highest on record.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Arrivals and Departures data for the year ending June 2014 show 6.65 million international visitors came to Australia, with strong annual growth from its top five markets – New Zealand, China, the UK, USA and Singapore – collectively contributing an additional 263,500 visitors – 54.3% of the total arrivals growth. Total international arrivals growth of 485,100 is the highest for any financial year since the ABS series began in 1992.

Flamin' Galah Sydney Tours and Airport Transfers have been watching closely as the numbers of people visiting Sydney has increased from when things were at a low post GFC.  We believe that the new initiatives to promote Sydney and parts of Australia in a way that draws attention to the less touristy attractions is a great idea to further increase visitation into Sydney.  The National Landscapes initiative plans to do that and encourages experience seekers to explore the less well known parts of Sydney and enjoy trips and tours which are new, exciting, fresh and different.

Tourism & Transport Forum Executive Director Adele Labine-Romain said “Effective, well-funded marketing campaigns promoting Australia’s world-class destinations are critical to ensuring that growth continues and to giving Australia a chance of reaching its Tourism 2020 target of doubling overnight visitor expenditure to up to $140 billion.”
